Three things it’s built to do: - **Bracing close.** The alcohol flashes off in seconds and the menthol puts a cold hit behind it. That tightened, cool, dry-in-seconds feel is what wet shavers mean by the sting. It is a sensory finish, not a medicinal one. - **Astringent close.** Alcohol contracts skin pores and the small surface vessels just opened by the warm lather for a comfortable post-shave feel. - **Scent throughline.** The same fragrance compound from the shaving soap continues into the splash, so the scent doesn’t disappear at the rinse. Wears 2-4 hours typically. If your skin doesn’t tolerate alcohol after shaving (eczema, rosacea, very dry skin types), the alcohol-free toner is the alternative finishing step.
